Error: Failed to configure IPv4 or IPv6 VRRP because the number of configured virtual MAC addresses reached the upper limit 16.
The customer came with an error on CE6870-48S6CQ-EI with V200R002C50SPC800 saying that the virtual MAC address limit had been reached
Error: Failed to configure IPv4 or IPv6 VRRP because the number of configured virtual MAC addresses reached the upper limit 16.
The CE6870EI supports a maximum of sixteen VRID's and the customer has reached this limit.
Solution
The VRID on an interface must be unique, but different interfaces can be bound to the VRRP groups with the same VRID.
If the number of VRIDs is insufficient (our case here), you can bind different the interfaces to the VRRP groups with the same VRID and this will fix your issue because different groups can use the same VRID with no issues.
