- See Network Analysis to check whether the network is normal.
- If no, verify that the network cables are connected properly.
- If yes, go to the next step.
- Verify that operations on the fax machine are correct. For detail, see router-related document to operate it.
- Before sending a fax, verify that papers are properly placed to the paper tray, and the fax machine is ready.
- When sending a fax, press the start button only after hearing the fax confirm tone sent by the other party.
- Check whether the memory of the fax machine is used up. If the memory is used up, clear the memory.
- Check whether papers are placed to paper trays of both sender and recipient fax machines. If there are papers on both fax machines, remove the papers from the recipient fax machine.
- Verify that the fax machines are correctly set. For detail, see router-related document to operate it.
- If no fax can be sent, check whether the pulse dialing mode has been enabled. If this mode has been enabled, change it to the touch-tone dialing mode.
- If no fax can be received, check whether the function of rejecting faxes has been enabled. If this function has been enabled, disable it.
- Check whether the transparent transmission mode has been enabled for the unified gateway and IAD.
- Check the transparent transmission mode in each device.
- For a SIP user, run the show subscriber dn <string> command to query the value of the FaxMode field.

- For a SIP user, run the show subscriber dn <string> command to query the value of the FaxMode field.
- If the transmission mode is different, run the following commands to change the transmission mode for consistency.
- config modify subscriber dn <string> faxmode <null|bypass|t38> for a SIP user
- sip send-capability fax pri 0 transfer <G711a|G711u> for an IAD user
- Check the transparent transmission mode in each device.
- If the network has IAD, adjust the sending and receiving gains to check whether the fault is rectified. For example, the IAD132E(T).
- Run the display pstnport attribute n command to view the sending and receiving gains.

- Check whether the fault is rectified. If the fault is rectified, the troubleshooting process is complete. If the fault persists, go to the next step.
- Run the display pstnport attribute n command to view the sending and receiving gains.
