  • A switch board has two separate planes: service plane (eFabric ports) and hardware management plan (Base ports).

  • eFabric LAN0 to LAN3:

    • The ports belong to the service plane.

    • The ports are 40GE QSFP+ optical ports.

    • The ports connect to the 40GE optical switch using optical fibers.

  • eFabric LAN4 to LAN7:

    • The ports belong to the service plane.

    • The ports are 10GE SFP+ optical ports.

    • The ports are connected to the 10GE optical switch using optical fibers.

  • Base LAN0 to LAN3:

    • The ports belong to the hardware management plane.

    • The ports can be 10GE optical ports, GE optical ports, or GE electrical ports. In the VCM, the ports can function as management ports.
