What does it need to be configured in the Smartloggers2000, when building a fiber optics ring formed by multiple Smartloggers and a managed switch with the RSTP built-in? Are there any specific requirements for the managed switch to ensure a communication with the Smartloggers?

Hello,
To resolve your issue refer to 4.12 Connecting Fiber Jumpers

Thanks! The information provided in the user manual is rather focused on the physical connections of the fiber optics. I am more interested in the required configuration of the Smartlogger specific to the operation of an ethernet ring. Is there anything special that I have to do (I haven´t found anything related in the user manual)? Or the Smartloggers are able to operate under a ring without any additional configuration as long as the managed switch´s RSTP is configured and running?

Hello,

The SmartLogger can be connected to devices such as an ATB through fiber jumpers. You can
select the devices to be connected based on the actual networking scenario.

Procedure

Step 1 Insert the optical module into SFP1 or SFP2 of the SmartLogger.

Notice

An optical module is optional. A 100M optical module (eSFP, 1310 nm, and single mode)
with transmission distance of at least 15 km is recommended.
When inserting an optical module into the SFP1 port, verify that the side with a handle
faces upwards. When inserting an optical module into the SFP2 port, verify that the side
with a handle faces downwards.

The optical switch used for the central control room supports RSTP and STP. To ensure the
communication between the optical switch and the SmartLogger, the configured optical
module must have a transmission speed of 100 Mbit/s.

Step 2 Connect the two fiber jumpers delivered with the optical module to the ports on the optical
module.

Step 3 Connect the other end of the fiber jumper to the port on the ATB.

Step 4 Determine the operating status based on the Ethernet optical port indicators.

End

Follow-up Procedure

Disconnection can be performed in reverse order

Note

  1. When removing a fiber jumper, press down the clip first.

2. When removing an optical module, press down the handle and pull the module outwards.
