Hello, everyone!
Today, I would like to share with you the comaparison of BSS and ESS.
BSS (Basic Service Set) :
As the name implies, the Basic Service Set (BSS) is a collection of all stations that connect with one another. Computers or components connected to a wired network are referred to as stations here.
It's a wireless LAN created with an access point (AP) that centralizes access and control, allowing access and control over all wireless devices.
There are only one or two APs in it.
Because the BSS only has one AP, users are unable to easily travel from one location to the next.
It allows for wireless communication across small distances.
The number of users on BSS is lower than on ESS.
Because of the short range, it is quite secure.
Wireless devices in BSS are connected to the network via an access point.
BSS is a simple procedure that is only utilized infrequently.
ESS (Extended Service Set) :
As the name implies, an Extended Service Set (ESS) is a collection of BSSs or one or more interconnected BSSs, as well as their wired network.
It's mostly done by linking many BSSs together.
There are multiple APs in it.
ESS provides mobility, which means that a client or user can move from one location to another while being connected to the LAN.
It enables wireless communication over a vast distance.
In comparison to BSS, ESS has a larger user base.
Because of the large range, it is less secure than BSS.
BSS and ESS are connected by a distribution system in ESS. In this case, the distribution system joins multiple Aps to build an ESS, resulting in wireless stations.
Although ESS is more complicated than BSS, it is widely employed.
