Block SmartMigration with WWN takeover

  Rewarded Hi-coins: 1 (problem resolved)

We've to migrate one Thin-LUN from one storagepool/diskdomain to another storagepool (Oceanstor 6800v5)

Is it possible to do this online and to keep the WWN from the source LUN without impact to the connected servers?

For Thick-LUNs we can use the HyperMirror function. But HyperMirror is not working for Thin-LUNs :curse:

Before and after the SmartMigration, the source and target LUNs do not change. Therefore, the WWN is not changed.

Hi, dear

Yes, You can smart migrate data without impact to the server.

But, you must meet the following prerequisites

  • The storage system has available source LUNs and target LUNs, and those LUNs are normal.
  • The target LUN capacity is not smaller than the source LUN capacity.
  • Source LUNs and target LUNs belong to the same controller.
  • No value-added services are running on the source LUNs or target LUNs.

Note:

Data migration may affect system performance, and the data reading and writing may impact.

For your another question, you can create a SmartMigration task to solve your problem.

You can refer to the following link to create a SmartMigration task.

Hi Stephen. Thank you.
But the wwn changed during my tests with the SmartMigration. Have you tested the migration? Without any impact to the hosts?

You can migrate data without affecting the hosts, but if you want to use data on migrated Luns or Storage which is eDevLun, you'll have to create mapping with new storage as well. just make sure Lun types are same on both and capacity of new LUN is not less than old Lun.
If you need any help with creating a smart migration task, feel free to reply on this post.
