BGP Inbound Traffic control over multiple default routes

Latest reply: Dec 9, 2020 00:37:58 541 9 0 0 0

Hi,

Can anybody help me to understand about BGP inbound traffic engineering options available in Huawei NE05 series routers.

At present we have three upstream connectivity from three different service providers. All three are EBGP peering and service providers are advertising default routes to our Router. Out of three only one service provider

path is always using for all inbound traffic. So we are unable balance traffic load across all the three links.

Total six IP prefixes are available and each upstream peering are advertised with two prefixes.

Please let me know the solution and it would be great if I can get a quick response.

Regards,

Manu M

Hi,
You can try to use the MED attribute to control the inbound traffic routing.

For example:
ip ip-prefix med-prefix index 10 permit X.Y.128.0 20
route-policy med-500 permit node 10
 if-match ip-prefix med-prefix
 apply cost 500
route-policy med-500 permit node 15
apply cost 0
ipv4-family unicast
 peer A.B.254.241 route-policy med-500 export

Dear Friend,

Thanks for the advice and Let me check with MED attribute configuration.

Does the service provider need to make any changes in their side on MED attribute value based on our changes ?

I'm sorry, that's a bad suggestion. I've looked at your requirements carefully. Because different service providers have different ASs, I'm afraid MED cannot solve your problem. The load cannot be generated by configured the NE05. Your requirements may require cooperation from the 3 service providers.

So what could be the alternate solution. I have tried the as-path prepend for influence the inbound traffic. But it is not working properly.

Let me know if any other options.
