sHello team,

I set up a BFD session between two directly connected devices. After the configuration is complete, run the display bfd session all verbose command to check the session status. The command output shows that the state is multi hop, as follows. But the route has only one hop. Why?

<HUAWEI> display bfd session all verbose

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Session MIndex : 258        (Multi Hop) State : Up        Name : atoc

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  Local Discriminator     : 10                  Remote Discriminator   : 20

Session Detect Mode     : Asynchronous Mode Without Echo Function

BFD Bind Type           : Peer Ip Address

Bind Peer Ip Address    : 10.2.1.2

  FSM Board Id            : 1                  TOS-EXP                : 7

Min Tx Interval (ms)    : 1000               Min Rx Interval (ms)    : 1000

Actual Tx Interval (ms) : 1000               Actual Rx Interval (ms) : 1000

Local Detect Multi      : 3                  Detect Interval (ms)    : 3000

WTR Interval (ms)       : --                 Process PST             : Disable

  Local Demand Mode       : Disable

Last Local Diagnostic   : Administratively Down

Bind Application        : No Application Bind

Session TX TmrID        : --                  Session Detect TmrID   : --

Session Init TmrID      : --                  Session WTR TmrID      : --

Looking forward to your reply, thank you!

Hi Sprout,

When you run the display bfd session all verbose command, the status of the BFD session rather than the route status is displayed. The status of the BFD session (single-hop or multi-hop) adapts to different protocol implementation mechanisms in different networking, that is, different BFD session status. The status of the BFD session is not about the actual networking mode.

For BFD sessions, the criterion for distinguishing a single-hop session from a multi-hop session is whether the session is bound to an interface. According to the RFC for BFD, a single-hop session needs to be bound to an interface. Therefore, you need to specify the interface parameter to create a single-hop BFD session. When creating a multi-hop session, you do not need to specify the interface parameter. Note that the multi-hop mechanism can be applied to the single-hop networking.

Any further questions, let us know!
