Dears,

The objective was to increase the network resiliency by using BFD on our links without too much administrative overhead. Thus, and according to the NE40E documentation, we implemented link-bundle BFD sessions as an alternative solution to the static BFD sessions.

Based, on the documentation the feature should put interfaces in protocol downstate [down(b)] when the BFD session goes down. However, after testing the behavior the result was that the BFD main and sub sessions status didnt affect the interfaces status in any way ( eth-trunks and their members).

BFD session gets down once link failure has occurred, but it doesn't reflect its status to any of interface status nor eth-trunk member status.

Kindly help to clarify the issue.

as a side note, I did this on eNSP lab using NE40 product and it was perfect.

Thank you in advance

Hello,
By default, the BFD session status will not be reflected in the physical interface state.
If you want the BFD session status being reflected in the physical interface state, you can configure the [oam-bind ingress bfd-session trigger if-down egress interface] or [process-interface-status].
For the first command configuration, when a link fault is detected, the BFD session on the local device informs the OAM management module, which triggers the physical status of the interface to go Down. When the faulty link recovers, the BFD session on the local device informs the OAM management module, which triggers the interface to go Up.
For the second command configuration, If a BFD session detects a fault and goes Down, the associated interface status becomes BFD_Down. As a result, the direct route of the interface is deleted from the routing table, and BFD packets can still be sent.

Thank you,

But what kind of benefit can I get from enabling BFD link-bundle feature?

If the Eth-Trunk fails and common BFD is used, only one single-hop BFD session is created. After the creation is complete, BFD selects the board on which a member interface resides as a state machine board and monitors the member interface. If the member interface or state machine board fails, BFD considers the entire Eth-Trunk failed even if other member interfaces of the Eth-Trunk are Up. BFD for link-bundle resolves this issue.

BFD for link-bundle consists of one main session and multiple sub-sessions, the main session creates a BFD sub-session for each Eth-Trunk member interface, summarizes the sub-session monitoring results, and determines the status of the Eth-Trunk.

In other words, BFD for link-bundle provides a more reliable way than the BFD does.

The provided link is related to vrrp bfd not what I was mention in my original post.
Bfd link-bundle is new feature in NE40
I already tested in the latest version.

Hi friend!
1. Check whether the BFD session is successfully established. 2. Can you send the BFD configuration information?
