from the documentation, the account balance of the master SIM card is insufficient, the router will switch to the backup APN.

Not sure if this would work. When the quota is reached the traffic is not blocked, instead the speed is downgraded from 300Mbit/s to few kbits/s.
I doubt that this would be detected, because the internet connection will continue to work, but slowly.

Another solution could be to switch the sim from a remote device: I have an access point in the network that keeps network counters, I could write a script that connects to the AR502 and switches the sim. However, I am not sure that this can be done.
