Basic System Synopsis: The project is installed in an Industrial Recycling unit and there is no utility grid. Two big Diesel Generators of 650KVA Size run at day time to run the big crushing machines. At evening 1 x 150KVA runs to miscellaneous load when the crushing machines turns off. Client has installed 189KWp PV System with 3 x 60KTL-M0 inverters in parallel to Diesel Genators. Instead of smartlogger, they are using a third party data logger and monitoring platform. Following Alarms were reviewed and remedies suggested based on the log report of one of the inverters. Plant has been under since 27th June which means it has almost 18 weeks till test day.

Reason Description | Possible Reason | Remedy |
Grid Failure for few seconds and then getting back live. | The diesel generators losses output for few seconds and get back | The alarm disappears automatically after the diesel generators power recovers. No special maintenance required. |

String 11 was connected reverse and cleared within 4 minutes. This problem happened only once." | This could be because of reverse polarity connection. | The problem is solved but remember in this case to check whether the PV string is reversely connected to the SUN2000. If yes, wait until the solar irradiance decreases to a level when the PV string current reduces to below 0.5 A. Then turn off the two DC switches and correct the PV string connection. |

High Grid voltage sensed for longer than HVRT Duration but cleared immediately | Possible reason would be sudden high load disconnection resulting to surge of voltage. | If you have confirmed that the grid connection voltage exceeds the upper threshold and obtained the consent of the Huawei Service team, modify the upper voltage protection threshold via SUN2000 APP as special user. |

Grid over-frequency sensed for few seconds | Possible reason would be sudden high load disconnection resulting to surge of frequency. | Since alarm occurs frequently then change frequency limits via special user. modify the power grid over-frequency protection threshold via SUN2000 APP as special user after taking permission from Huawei service team. |

My findings and proposed solution:
Reason Description | Possible Reason | Remedy |
The grid voltage is below the lower threshold or the low voltage duration has lasted for more than the value specified by LVRT | This has possibly occurred because a high load is connected to the system suddenly which has reduced the output voltage of diesel generators. | If you have confirmed that the grid connection voltage goes below lower threshold and obtained the consent of the Huawei Service team, modify the lower voltage protection threshold via SUN2000 APP as special user. |

The actual power grid frequency is lower than the standard equirement for the local power grid. | This has possibly occurred because a high load is connected to the system suddenly which has reduced the output frequency of diesel generators. | Since alarm occurs frequently then change over-frequency limits via special user. modify the power grid lower frequency protection threshold via SUN2000 APP as special user after taking permission from Huawei service team. |

My findings and proposed solution:
Reason Description | Possible Reason | Remedy |
Only a few PV modules are connected in series to the PV string 11 and hence the string voltage is lower than that of other PV strings. | This could be because of shadow. Since this is not recorded as a daily problem on a specific time of the day, therefore it can be due to the shadow of a cleaner who would be doing the cleaning of modules during those duration | It is a warning that does not stops generation but it is good to avoid shadow during sun hours on the solar string and try cleaning in the evening or very early in the morning. |
Further based comments are made on the quality of installation:
1) Inverter are facing direct sunlight on heat sink at day time. Proper arrangement of shading has to be done to avoid derating of inverter as summer is very hot in UAE. ( Please refer to attachment picture 1)
2) Proper sealing of glands has to be done using Silicon sealant to avoid nesting of insects and dusts going inside. ( Please refer to attachment picture 2)
3) Glands has to be properly tightened to insure IP65 rating of inverters. While stripping cables, installation guide must be followed for appropriate stripping lengths advised which is one of the reason that glands do not get tight properly. ( Please refer to attachment picture 3)
