URPF can be classified into strict URPF and loose URPF.

The difference between the strict mode and lose mode is as follows:

  • After being configured with URPF in lose mode, the packet can pass the URPF check when the forwarding table contains the corresponding entries. Interface match is not required.

  • After being configured with URPF in strict mode, the packet can pass the URPF check only when the forwarding table contains the corresponding entries and the outbound interface matches the entry in the forwarding table.
