MAC flapping detected

[Problem Description]

Customer constantly see log messages on his CE12808 (V200R002C50SPC800,

Patch V200R002SPH012) and CE6855HI (V200R002C50SPC800 Patch V200R002SOH012).

Example of log message from CE12808:

Oct 15 2018 14:32:08+03:00 NDC01-PLCE12-01 %FEI/4/hwMflpBdPeriodicTrap(l):CID=0x808c03f6;MAC flapping detected, BdId = 92, Original-Port = Eth-Trunk14, Flapping port 1 = 10.5.2.15, port 2 = -. Check the network connected to the interface learning a flapping MAC address : 00c0-b79b-06fc.

 

Example of log message from с CE6855HI:

Oct 15 2018 16:14:02+03:00 NDC01-PLCE68-02 %FEI/4/hwMflpBdPeriodicTrap(l):CID=0x808c0494;MAC flapping detected, BdId = 92, Original-Port = 10.5.2.10, Flapping port 1 = Eth-Trunk2, port 2 = -. Check the network connected to the interface learning a flapping MAC address : 00c0-b79b-06fc.

The source MAC first enters CE128 from eth14, and then encapsulates it into the Vxlan tunnel, and Unpack it to CE6865. After Unpack, CE5865 confirms that the packet is learned from 10.5.2.10, and then sends it from eth2.

 

There is also a situation that is opposite to the above

The source MAC first enters CE6865 from eth2, and then encapsulates it into the Vxlan tunnel, and Unpack it to CE128. After Unpack, CE128 confirms that the packet is learned from 10.5.2.10, and then sends it from eth2.

 

This is how it has been repeated, leading to such problems, the reasons may be:

1. The user's traffic will enter from CE128 and will enter from CE6865.

so if customer meet this issue how to resolved it?
do you have any good idea to solve this issue asap.

hi author , from you sharing case , i think there is no any root cause shared to us , usually mac-address flapping , there is a physical or logical loop exist customer's network . so i think we can suggest to customer check the flapping mac-address source interface one by one , located the flapping mac-address place and check the loop .

There is no relation between MAC flapping and patch installation. MAC flapping should be caused by shutting port and un-shutting port

also hope you public more doc that levle like this .
would you please also mention where from the technical detail , i can found it from orignial part .
from orignial part i can found more correct parameter , this is more important .

By default, the system performs flapping detection for all MAC addresses. In some scenarios, for example, in a scenario where the flapping of a MAC address is caused by a specific device or operation faults, flapping detection does not need to be implemented for the MAC address, so flapping detection is not needed for this MAC address.

To disable the system from implementing flapping detection for a MAC address, run the mac-address flapping detection exclude command to add the MAC address to the MAC flapping detection whitelist. After configuration, if flapping occurs on the specific MAC address, no MAC flapping alarm or record is generated for this MAC address.

the MAC flapping detected is a abnormal problem ,it serious influence our network useful and The source MAC first enters CE6865 from eth2, and then encapsulates it into the Vxlan tunnel, and Unpack it to CE128. MAC address drift refers to the phenomenon that in the same VLAN, a MAC address has two out-bound interfaces, and the out-bound interface learnt later covers the original out-bound interface. This is the official definition. Generally speaking, MAC address drift refers to the change of the outlet interface of the MAC address table entry.
