[Guangzhou, China, November 25, 2016] On the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Commission for Basic Systems Technical Conference 2016, Huawei was invited to share its successful practices in informatization construction for the meteorological field, and gave a keynote speech titled "Huawei Distributed Storage Simplifies Meteorological Data Lifecycle Management", which introduced Huawei's data lifecycle management ideology, how to comprehensively improve the data mining and analysis capabilities on massive meteorological data, and how Huawei distributed cloud storage is used at the National Satellite Meteorological Center of China.

Huawei delivered keynote address during the conference

The Commission for Basic Systems is the most important technical committee of the WMO. It is responsible for the development and implementation of the WMO's international cooperation programs and activities in many core areas, such as observation, information, forecast and service. The Commission also provides guidance and support services for global atmospheric monitoring, public weather and the WMO Space Program.

With the recent progress in meteorological satellite data observation technologies, more and more of public is using information generated meteorological and hydrological institutions, leading to surges in Internet user traffic. The processing, storage and utilization of massive data also creates new challenges for the IT systems of these institutions. Previous tape-based data services and archiving systems can no longer meet new requirements, nor are they able to respond to data service requests in a timely manner.

Huawei has led the way in research on mass data processing and management applications. As the flagship product of Huawei's distributed file storage systems, OceanStor 9000 has helped China National Meteorological Satellite Center manage PB-class data generated by the Fengyun series of meteorological satellites. During the trial operation, Huawei has shortened service times from one hour to one second, helping China National Meteorological Satellite Center provide the highest quality satellite data, applications and services of any meteorological satellite institutions and users in China.

Huawei has been researching distributed storage technologies since 2005. After 10 years of accumulating and applying knowledge in the field, Huawei has deployed distributed storage systems in large-scale fashion across various industries. The latest fully convergent distributed cloud storage system, FusionStorage 6.0, provides distributed block, file, and object storage capabilities, accelerating the smooth evolution from traditional infrastructure to the cloud.

In addition, Huawei distributed storage systems construct data storage pools to meet data access requirements throughout the workflow, from collection, to analysis, to archiving, to achieve data lifecycle management. Huawei storage will continue to cooperate with partners to promote industry-oriented application optimization solutions and shape the future of data management trends in the cloud era using distributed storage technologies.
