Product Features

Architecture

The NE adopts an advanced routing architecture and a uniform platform to receive, transmit, and bear multiple types of services on an all-IP network. This improves network flexibility and transmission efficiency, helps construct reliable carrier-class packet transport networks (PTNs), and reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).
Interfaces

The NE provides the following high-density interfaces to meet the deployment requirements of different services and scenarios:

  • FE interfaces
  • GE/10GE interfaces http://support.huawei.com/huaweiconnect/public_sys-resources/icon-note.gif NOTE:

    • Only the NE05E-SE&SF and NE08E-S6 support 10GE interfaces.
    • Colored optical modules can be installed on GE/10GE optical interfaces. Then the GE/10GE optical interfaces can be connected to the WDM transport network, saving optical fiber resources.
    • GPON upstream optical modules can be installed only on GE optical interfaces of the NE05–SJ&SK. Then the GE optical interfaces can be connected to the GPON transport network.

Service Bearing

The NE provides Layer 2, Layer 3, MPLS, and Layer 2/3 VPN functions to provide flexible and comprehensive bearing solutions for different scenarios, which helps achieve Metro services that are more intelligent. The MPLS function, which is based on MPLS/MPLS-TP standards, adopts a connection-oriented packet switching technology, meeting the requirements for the bearer network evolution to LTE and achieving the best cost-effectiveness.
The NE supports IP Hard-pipe. It is an IP network-based access technology that strictly isolates soft and hard pipes by reserving hardware on the NE, so that the soft and hard pipes do not affect each other when carrying leased line services of high-value customers, reserving bandwidth and ensuring low delay for hard pipe services.

Reliability

The NE uses the following technologies to ensure high reliability:

  • IP FRR, LDP FRR, TE FRR, and VPN FRR
  • TE-tunnel APS
  • PW redundancy protection and PW APS
  • MPLS TE CR-LSP backup
  • Bit error-triggered protection switching
  • Only the NE08E-S6 supports 1+1 hot backup of system control, switching, and timing board (CXP)
  • Only the NE08E-S6 supports Non-Stop Routing (NSR).

QoS

The NE supports simple and complex traffic classification and three levels of hierarchical quality of service (HQoS) scheduling. Therefore, the NE can provide flexible and reliable differentiated services for users by using refined traffic scheduling and shaping.

Security

The NE uses the following technologies to ensure security:

  • DHCP Snooping: The NE functions as a firewall between the DHCP client and DHCP server.
  • URPF: used to prevent network attacks based on source IP address spoofing.
  • Local attack defense: includes management and control plane protection, attack source tracing, and alarm generation in the event that the discarded packet threshold is crossed.
  • Whitelist association at the application layer

Maintainability

The NE uses the following technologies to ensure maintainability:

  • A network management system (NMS) with a graphical user interface, which simplifies NE management, improves O&M capabilities, and facilitates network-wide or end-to-end performance monitoring and fault diagnosis.
  • Plug-and-play based on DHCP or DCN. The NMS can automatically detect and configure the newly connected devices, which helps to implement remote batch commissioning.
  • virtual cluster: The primary and secondary access aggregation gateways (AGGs) perform centralized path calculation, service provisioning, and traffic control for the cell site gateways (CSGs) on access rings. This simplifies network deployment and O&M.
  • Network quality analysis (NQA)
  • Directional Forwarding Detection (BFD), Ethernet OAM, ATM OAM, MPLS OAM, and MPLS-TP OAM
  • ITU-T Y.1731
  • IP FPM
  • RFC 2544: Before service provisioning or migration, an NE newly going online can transmit packets to test the throughput, packet loss rate, and latency so that test meters are not required.
  • Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP) server
  • ITU-T Y.1564
  • ISSU (supported only by the NE08E-S6): When the device is configured with two system control boards, it can be upgraded in ISSU mode. The ISSU mode supports service-affecting ISSU and non-service-affecting ISSU. Non-service-affecting ISSU has high requirements on the system.
  • Dying gasp (supported only by the NE05E-SE/NE05E-SF/NE05E-SG/NE05E-SH/NE05E-SI/NE05E-SJ/NE05E-SK/NE05E-SL/NE05E-SM): When the device is powering off, it reports a dying gasp alarm to the NMS software. By default, the dying gasp function of the device is enabled.

Synchronization

The NE supports complete clock synchronization solutions to provide precise frequency or time synchronization.   • Physical-layer synchronization, including Ethernet clock synchronization
  • Network Time Protocol (NTP)
  • 1588v2, which meets the LTE network's requirements for clock synchronization
  • G8275.1
  • 1588 adaptive clock recovery (ACR)
  • CES ACR/DCR


Others


  • Energy conservation: Idle interfaces can be manually disabled.
  • Only the NE05E-SI/NE05E-SM supports PoE interfaces to provide electrical power for other devices.
  • Outdoor NE05E-SL/NE05E-SM device can be installed on a pole or outdoor wall.
