Configuring Telnet Login on Huawei Switches

1. Enable the Telnet service on the switch.

<Huawei>system-view # Enter the system view.

[Huawei] telnet server? # Check whether the enable or disable option is available. If yes, select the corresponding enabling mode.

[Huawei] telnet server enable #enable Enabling the Telnet Service (Common Series)

[Huawei] undo telnet server disable #disable Enable the Telnet service. (Generally, the Telnet service is enabled for the high-end CE series.)

2. Set the maximum number of VTY user interfaces that can be logged in at the same time.

[Huawei] user-interface maximum-vty 15 # The default value is 5. You do not need to set this parameter.

3. Configure the terminal attributes of the VTY user interface.

[Huawei] user-interface vty 0 14 # The value is 15. All the values are 0 14. If the default value is, the default value is 0 4.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]protocol inbound telnet # Configure the VTY user interface to support the Telnet protocol. By default, the user interface supports all protocols. This configuration is not required.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]user privilege level 3 # Set the user level. The value 3 indicates the management level and has the highest authority.

4. Configure the user authentication mode for the VTY user interface.

The system provides AAA authentication and password authentication. This section describes how to configure user authentication to enhance device security.
Operation Procedure

1. Configure AAA authentication.

[Huawei] user-interface vty 0 14 # Enter the VTY user interface view. 0 14 indicates 15 users. If only 14 is entered, only VTY 14 is entered.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]authentication-mode aaa, # Set the authentication mode to AAA.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]quit # Exit from the VTY user interface view.

[Huawei] aaa # Enter the AAA view.

[Huawei-aaa]local-user admin1234 password? # Display the selected password selection.

[Huawei-aaa]local-user admin1234 password simple Huawei12#$ # password option simple account admin1234 password Huawei12#$ (common series)

[Huawei-aaa]local-user admin1234 password irreversible-cipher Huawei12#$ # password option irreversible-cipher account admin1234 password Huawei12#$ (usually used for high-end CE series)
[Huawei-aaa]local-user admin1234 service-type telnet # Set the access type of the local user to Telnet.

[Huawei-aaa]quit # Exit from the AAA view.

[Huawei] commit # Submit Configuration

2. Set the password authentication.

[Huawei] user-interface vty 0 14 # Enter the VTY user interface view.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]authentication-mode password # Set the user authentication mode to password authentication.

[Huawei-ui-vty0-14]set authentication password Huawei12#$ # Set the authentication password. The password can be in plain text or cipher text.

Note:

The password can be in plain text or cipher text. If the cipher password parameter is not specified, the plaintext password is entered in interactive mode. If the cipher password parameter is specified, both the plaintext password and ciphertext password can be entered, but the password is saved in the configuration file in cipher text.
