[All About Switches] Ping Packets Are Discarded Due to the Flood of TC Packets

Fault Symptom

Ping packets are discarded between the switch and directly connected devices.

Cause Analysis

When TC packets are flooded, ARP entries are frequently updated. As a result, ARP entries cannot be learned within a short period of time, and ping packets are discarded between the switch and directly connected devices.

Solution

1.         Log in to the switch, and run the display logbuffer command in any view to check the log information. The command output shows that a large number of TC packets exist.

2.         Run the display arp command multiple times in any view. The command output shows that ARP entries are updated frequently.

3.         Run the arp topology-change disable and mac-address update arp commands to disable the device from responding to TC packets. That is, the device does not age or delete ARP entries when receiving TC packets.

4.         Check recent operations and networking topologies to eliminate loops.

Conclusions and Suggestions

If the version is V100R002, you are advised to upgrade the version to V200R010 and install the latest patch as soon as possible.
