5 dbm loss in fiber connection because of fiber connector differences
Description:
- The international marine cable company provisioned us with 10G Internet signal from new installed NE , the XFP in there side was 10GBASE-LR and so it sends from ( -1 to -6 ).
-but we received -10 dbm in our ODF , the Marin cable company also complained that they receive optical power lower than expected of our site
-Checking steps
- We started with cleaning fiber , then replacing it .
- We changed adaptors in our side ODF .
- When checking the Marin company ODF we found that it has fiber connector of type SC/APC while we use SC/UPC .
The APC Connector is a type of fiber connector that minimizes backreflection due to a 5° to 15° angle-polish applied to end faces. Like illustrated in the following picture , this angle allows for better fitting for the core in both fibers .

solution
the solve for this problem was by changing the client side fibers and ODF connector type in the marine company side
