I'd like to share with you another article about logging in to IP addresses.


192.168. 18.12 is the default login IP address that many wireless routers and modem manufacturers use to access the management panel.


Private IP address 192.168.18.12

192.168.18.12 is an IP address in the range 192.168.18.1 - 192.168.18.255.

The home network uses this address range. The router can automatically assign 192.168.18.12 to any device on the local network (Ipad, laptop, home computer, cell phone, etc.).


The IP range 192.168.18.1 - 192.168.18.255 is part of IP 192.168.18.12 and is a private IP range that complies with the standards set by RFC 1918. Addresses such as 192.168.18.12 are not allowed on the public Internet.

If the private network needs to connect to the Internet, you must use a proxy server or gateway.


Why are addresses like 192.168.18.12 so common?

As mentioned earlier, IP 192.168.18.12 is part of a private Class C network. The range of this network is 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255. This makes the number of possible IP addresses 65,535. This range is typically used for private networks because many routers have 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.18.1 configured as their default address.

If you use a tablet, phone, or laptop to connect to the network, in which case you get an IP address similar to 192.168.18.12


Log in to 192.168. 18.12 on your router or modem

Follow these steps to log in to your router or modem:

  • Open your most frequently used browsers (e.g. Edge, Chrome, Firefox, ...)

  • Enter http://192.168.18.12 in the address box of the browser and press Enter.

  • You will see a login page and enter your router login account and password, the most common login is admin (If you log in for the first time, use the default account and password provided on the nameplate on the back of your device to log in.)


If 192.168. 18.12 is not your router IP

If the IP address 192.168. 18.12 is not your router IP, you can retrieve the router IP using the ipconfig command only use for Windows (ifconfig for Mac, and Linux).

  • Click Start, click Run, enter cmd, and press Enter.

  • Type ipconfig and press Enter

You will get a screen similar to the following:

192.168.18.12

To find your router's IP number, look next to "Default Gateway" (listed last).
