Hello, everyone!

Today, I'd like to share with you a knowledge point. The details are as follows:

1. 10G-GPON and 10G-EPON Comes from Different Standard Organization

2. 10G PON Standards and Deployment Comparison

10G EPON

10G GPON

Deployment

Small   area: China telecom, Japan, Korea, 20% of total PON shipment

Global:   80% of total PON shipment

Small   area: China telecom, Japan(KDDI), Korea(KT, SK)

Global: China   Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, SingTel, PCCW, Vodafone, So-net, etc

Global: HKBN,   SKB, China Mobile, Bell, Orange, TDE, Vodafone, etc

Evolution

10G   EPON

10G   GPON

Backward   compatible with EPON, no need to change ODN

Need to add   external WDM1r, need ODN change

l  10G-GPON deployment is worldwide: global GPON accounted for 80% of total PON shipment and GPON will upgrade to 10G GPON in future; EPON and 10G EPON only deployed in several local markets

l  10G-GPON provides higher power budget to achieve longer distanceasymmetric 10G GPON uplink and downlink rate is 1: 4, more suitable for residential service bearing, while asymmetrical 10G EPON is 1: 10

l  10G-EPON upgrade is easier, it is backward compatible with EPON, ODN without change; 10G-GPON need to add WDM1r and lead to ODN change

3. 10G EPON Migration: Backward compatible with EPON, ODN no need Change

l  Advantage: ODN no need to change

l  Disadvantage: EPON and 10G-EPON uplink coexist through TDM, lead to bandwidth loss, the uplink bandwidth is from 1Gbps ~ 10Gbps depends on the number of EPON and 10G-EPON ONT on one port

4. 10G GPON Migration: Coexist with GPON through WDM1r, ODN needs to change

l  Advantage:

1.    Original GPON can be reused

2.    The uplink channels are separate, bandwidth is 10Gbps+1.25Gbps

l   Disadvantage:

1.    Need additional space to install WDM1r

2.    Need ODN change in the OLT side

Thanks.

Nice:)
