Hi community!
Here’s a case that 10 LUNs cannot be mapped because the storage array cannot identify the HP Host Initiators.
Fault Description
Two HP-UX 11i v3 + OceanStor SNS2248 + OceanStor 18500 are deployed at a certain site.
The two HP-UX 11i v3 hosts are connected to an SNS2248 Fibre Chanel switch, and the physical links are properly connected.
Zones are also properly configured on the switch.
When hosts are being created on the OceanStor 18500, the storage system cannot identify the host initiators.
This fault cannot be rectified by running the ioscan command or reinserting the Fibre Channel between the host and the switch.
Symptom
LUNs cannot be mapped from a storage array to the host.
Cause
If no I/O interaction is performed within about one minute,
the connection between the OceanStor 18500 storage system and HP-UX host is automatically interrupted.
On DeviceManager, you can see that the host initiator is in disconnected status.
If I/O read and write are involved in the follow-up operations,
the connection between the storage system and host is set up again.
This disconnection problem occurs due to the control mechanism of the HP-UX operating system and does not affect services.
If a WWN is not assigned in the corresponding host,
OceanStor 18000 storage systems do not display the WWN of a disconnected link in the WWN list.
As a result, users cannot find initiators of the two HP-UX servers after the WWN initiators are added, and cannot perform following-up operations.
Fault Diagnosis
1.Check the links and ensure that the storage system and servers are connected to the same switch.
2.Check the switch zones and ensure that the zone configuration is correct.
3.Ensure that the version of the OceanStor 18500 storage system is compatible with that of the HP-UX server.
4.If the storage system works properly and can map LUNs to a host of other types,
the initiator cannot be found due to a certain mechanism in the operating system of HP-UX servers.
Solutions
1.Do not add an initiator from the connected initiators.
On the Host tab, right-click the host and select Add Initiator from the drop-down list.

2.Enter the WWN of the HP-UX host.

3.After the initiator is added, go ahead to perform the mapping operations.
4.Run the ioscan command on the host to scan for disks.
If disks can be found, on the storage system, verify that the WWN initiator status is Connected.
Check After Recovery
You can log in to the storage system from the CLI.
Appendix
1.Diagnose the connection problems by checking the links and compatibility.
2.If the newly added HP host is disconnected, you can still view the initiator in the initiator list.
However, the status is link-down.
Application Scope
This is an HP host policy and irrelevant to models and versions of storage systems.
