This alarm is a high-risk alarm. When all links are faulty, policies generated by the UPCC cannot be delivered to the policy and charging enforcement function (PCEF), which affects subscriber experience. Clear this alarm immediately.

Basic Concepts

The UPCC makes policy decisions based on the data volume or duration usage reported by the PCEF and the service policy data and subscription information configured on the UPCC. Then, the UPCC generates rules and delivers the rules to the PCEF for enforcement.

Alarm Mechanism

  • This alarm is generated when a link between the UPCC and the PCEF becomes faulty. If multiple links between the UPCC and the PCEF are faulty, this alarm is generated for each of the faulty links.
  • This alarm is cleared when the link between the UPCC and the PCEF is restored.

If this alarm is generated due to the loss of Diameter heartbeat messages, the active network process unit (NPU) automatically sends ICMP_ECHO requests to check whether the peer address is reachable and saves the ICMP_ECHO requests and responses to a file in the packet_icmp_yyyymmddHHMMSS.cap format. The file is stored in the /opt/ne/MEID/proc/workspace0/prog directory on the board where the active NPU is deployed. MEID indicates the ID of the UPCC.
