The S9300 provides the following types of interfaces:

  • GE optical interface
  • GE electrical interface
  • FE optical interface
  • FE electrical interface
  • GE combo interface
  • 10GE optical interface

The FE (100M) optical interface and 10GE optical interface do not support auto-negotiation. They become Up only when they work in forcible mode, that is, their duplex mode and rate are set forcibly.

The features of the interfaces are as follows:

  • GE electrical interface

    Rate: 1000 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

    Working mode: auto-negotiation

    MDI mode: auto

When two 1000M electrical interfaces are interconnected, you must set their working mode to auto-negotiation and MDI mode to auto; otherwise, the interfaces cannot be Up.

  • GE optical interface

    Rate: 1000 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

    Working mode: auto-negotiation or forcible

  • FE optical interface

    Rate: 100 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

    Working mode: forcible

  • FE electric interface

    Rate: 100 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

    Working mode: forcible

MDI mode: normal, across, or auto

An 100M electrical interface can be Up only when it works in forcible mode.

  • GE combo interface

    • When functioning as a GE electrical interface:

      Rate: 1000 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

      Working mode: auto-negotiation

      MDI mode: auto

    • When functioning as a GE optical interface:

      Rate: 1000 Mbit/s

Duplex mode: full duplex or half duplex

      Working mode: auto-negotiation or forcible

  • 10GE optical interface

    Rate: 10 Gbit/s

    Duplex mode: full duplex

    Working mode: forcible

What is the main difference between single mode and multi mode interface ?
