A default route specifies a path the router should use if it doesn’t know how to reach the destination.

Static Routing: These must have their routing tables configured manually with all network addresses and paths in the internet work. Static routers typically used in small network.

Convergence: When any changes occur in network topology, then finished the updating process of routing table is called convergence.

Convergence Time: The total time required for updating process in a routing table, this time is called convergence time.

** You need to perform two basic steps when setting up IP routing on your router:

1.   Enable the routing protocol.

2.   Assign IP address to Router.

** IP routing configuration tasks:

**** Global Configuration.

1.   Select Routing Protocols

2.   Specify Networks.

*** Using the Router and Network Command:

Router: The router command is used to access the routing protocol that administrator wish to configure.

Network: Network command enable the routing process to determine which interfaces will participate in the sending and receiving of routing updates.

Note: The network numbers must be based on the network class address, not subnet address or individual host addresses.
