The PCRF-initiated IP connectivity access network (IP-CAN) session termination operations include: - Subscriber deletion
- Subscriber account frozen
- Delivery of rules with Operation Type set to Term IP-CAN Session
Figure 1 shows the message flow of PCRF-initiated IP-CAN session termination. In quasi-associated mode, the policy and charging rules function (PCRF) interworks with the policy and charging enforcement function (PCEF) though the Diameter routing agent (DRA). In direct connection mode, the PCRF connects to the PCEF directly. - After the PCRF detects an IP-CAN session termination request, it sends an RAR-Termination message carrying Session Id to the PCEF.
http://localhost:7904/pages/CEC1230A/01/CEC1230A/01/resources/public_sys-resources/icon-note.gif NOTE: An IP-CAN session will be terminated if an RAR-Termination message indicating deletion of all policy and charging control (PCC) rules is received or the Session-Release-Cause attribute value pair (AVP) is carried in the RAR-Termination message. -
The PCEF validates the RAR-Termination message and locates the IP-CAN session based on Session Id. If the validation is passed, the PCEF sends an RAA-Termination message to the PCRF. The RAA-Termination message carries AVPs such as Session-Id and Result-Code/Experimental-Result. The PCEF performs the following operations for each IP-CAN bearer in the IP-CAN session: - The PCEF sends a Delete Packet Data Protocol (PDP) Context Request message to the serving GPRS support node (SGSN). The Delete PDP Context Request message carries parameters such as tunnel endpoint identifier (TEID), network service access point identifier (NSAPI), and Teardown Indicator.
- The SGSN sends a Deactivate PDP Context Request message to the user equipment (UE). The Deactivate PDP Context Request message carries parameters such as TI, Teardown Indicator, and Cause.
- The UE removes the indicated PDP context and sends a Deactivate PDP Context Accept message carrying TI to the SGSN.
- The SGSN releases the radio access bearer (RAB) associated with the PDP context and sends a Delete PDP Context Response message carrying TEID to the PCEF.
- The PCEF deactivates the PDP context and releases related entries in the PDP context table.
- The PCEF releases related entries in the IP-CAN session table after all PDP contexts are processed and sends a CCR-Termination message to the PCRF, indicating that the IP-CAN session is terminated successfully. The CCR-Termination message carries AVPs such as Session-Id, CC-Request-Type (TERMINATE_REQUEST), CC-Request-Number, and Termination-Cause (DIAMETER_ADMINISTRATIVE).
