Symptom The subscriber cannot hear tones, including dial tones, special dial tone, ringback tone, ringing tone, various busy tones, howler tone, and call waiting tone. Possible Causes - The MGW or terminal does not register with the SoftX3000.
- The subscriber port is locked.
- The external cable is faulty.
- The equipment does not work normally.
Fault Diagnosis Figure 1 shows the procedure for troubleshooting the MGW/terminal tone playing failure. Figure 1 Procedure for troubleshooting the MGW/terminal tone playing failure http://localhost:7890/pages/31184407/11/31184407/11/resources/figure/fig_cn_43_25_0004101.png Procedure Check the Registration of the MGW - Check whether the MGW that serves the subscriber or the terminal of the subscriber registers with the SoftX3000 normally.
If the MGW adopts the MGCP or H.248 protocol, perform the following steps: - Run DSP MGW on the LMT of the SoftX3000 to check whether the MGW is in the Normal state.
- Run the related command on the MGW to check whether the MGW registers with the SoftX3000 normally.
- Yes => 2
- No => Rectify the faults. For details, see MGCP or H.248 Gateway Registration Failure.
If the MGW adopts the SIP or H.323 protocol, perform the following steps: - Run DSP EPST on the LMT of the SoftX3000 to check whether the MGW is in the Registered state.
- On the terminal, check whether the terminal registers with the SoftX3000 normally.
- Yes => 6
- No => Rectify the faults. For details, see SIP or H.323 Gateway Registration Failure.
Check Whether the Subscriber Port Is Locked - If the subscriber is served by an MGCP or H.248 gateway, check whether the related alarm is reported on the alarm console (ALM-4327 Voice Subscriber Port Locked).
- Yes => Clear the alarm according to the procedure for handling "ALM-4327 Voice Subscriber Port Locked".
- No => 3
- If the gateway is an MGCP or H.248 gateway, check whether the subscriber port is locked on the MGW. For the checking method, see the user manual of the corresponding MGW.
- Yes => Make the port free by hooking off and on for several times or resetting the port on the MGW.
- No => 4
Check Whether the External Cable is Faulty - If the gateway is an MGCP or H.248 gateway, conduct the test for the external and internal cables on the MGW to check whether the external cable is faulty.
- Yes => See the troubleshooting manual of the MGW.
- No => 5

For details, see the user manual of each type of MGWs. Check Whether the MGW Is Running Normally - Check whether the MGW is running normally.
- Yes => 6
- No => Solve the problem by referring to the troubleshooting of each type of MGWs.
http://localhost:7890/pages/31184407/11/31184407/11/resources/public_sys-resources/icon-note.gif NOTE: - If the IAD or AMG is used, check whether the digital signal processor (DSP) channel is normal, whether the subscriber board is normal, whether the subscriber port is in the Start Service state, and whether the port is busy when the subscriber hooks off.
- If the DSP channel is not normal, reload the DSP program
- If the DSP channel is normal, reload the tone file or reload the IAD or AMG program.
- If the UMG8900 is used, the signal announcement is played by the VPU or SRU to the subscriber. If the announcement cannot be played successfully, check whether the VPU or SRU is running normally.
- If the SIP or H.323 terminal is used, the signal announcement is played by the terminal to the subscriber directly. If the announcement cannot be played successfully, check whether the terminal is faulty by replacing the terminal. If the terminal is faulty, reload the program. The ringback tone can also be played by the peer end or the terminal itself. If either the peer end nor the terminal supports tone playing, you need contact Huawei technical support to enable the SoftX3000 to play the ringback tone.
Collect the Signaling Messages - Collect the signaling messages on the MGW and the SoftX3000, and then contact Huawei technical support engineers.
- Symptom
- Log recording to previous handling operations.
- When the MGW adopts the MGCP or H.248 protocol, start the MGCP or H.248 message trace on the LMT. Trace the interaction of the MGCP or H.248 messages between the SoftX3000 and the MGW.
- When the SIP or H.323 multimedia terminal is used, start the SIP or H.323 message trace on the LMT. Trace the interaction of the SIP or H.323 messages between the SoftX3000 and the multimedia terminal.
