1. Application Description

1) Service Description

Event-based counters (EBCs) are supplementary to traditional performance counters. EBCs can be filtered by object (such as user category, service category, and terminal category), cause (triggering cause and failure cause), or combined filter criteria. The EBCs can provide more detailed evaluation and more accurate fault isolation and locating, satisfying customer requirements for counter diversity and quick customization.

EBCs are measured by the U2000 based on the call history recording (CHR) data generated on a network element (NE). CHR records call-related events. The U2000 measures an EBC based on filter criteria, such as failure causes, service characteristics, and operator IDs for a call-related event.

The following concepts helps you better understand the EBC:

  • Base counter: You can obtain EBCs by filtering base counters based on specific criteria. Use the base counter "Number of RRC Connection Establishment Attempts (Excluding Duplicated Attempts)" as an example. You can specify Establish Cause to generate required EBCs.

EBCs are classified into five categories: accessibility EBCs, retainability EBCs, mobility EBCs, latency EBCs, and resource utilization EBCs. Each category of EBC includes multiple base counters.

  • Measurement period: It specifies the period during which EBC measurement is performed. EBCs support only the 15-minute measurement period.
  • Filter: You can specify filter criteria (such as access causes, failure causes, service characteristics, and operator IDs) for base counters to obtain EBCs.

The following figure shows the contrast between traditional network performance counters and EBCs.

2) Documentation Description

2. Highlights

1)  Since SRAN10.1, the EBC Summary file has been added. This file lists all eNodeB-related EBCs and allows users to filter EBCs as required.

2) Since SRAN9.0, descriptions about filters are added to EBCs, helping you better understand and use EBCs.

In SRAN8.0 and earlier versions, you need to switch to the related event to view descriptions about EBC filter criteria.

In SRAN9.0 and later versions, you can view EBC filter criteria under section "Filters" on the related base counter page.

3)  Since SRAN9.0, the base counter measurement method has been optimized.

In SRAN8.0 and earlier versions, the measurement method describes measurement of an event that meets a specific criterion.

In SRAN9.0 and later versions, base counters related to signaling flow are provided with signaling flow charts and measurement methods, and base counters irrelevant to signaling flow are also provided with detailed measurement methods. Description about base counter measurement method is clear.

4) Features related to base counters are included.
