Enhanced Multimedia Fallback Function
|
The enhanced multimedia fallback function is also called Enhanced Video Phone (VP+). This function is designed to improve the fallback of the VP service. It ensures that the calling party can use the VP service whenever possible. When the VP service fallback occurs because of the network or terminal of the called party, the calling party is connected through the VP service while the called party is connected through the voice service. As a result, the calling party can use the VP service throughout the call; that is, the calling party watches the video sent from the network and hears the voice of the called party. The called party, however, receives only the ordinary voice service. The VP+ service flow is as follows:
1. The calling party makes a VP call to the called party. 2. The VP call fallback occurs. 3. The called party is alerted and receives the voice call 4. The VP call is set up with the calling party and the voice call is set up with the called party. 5. The calling party receives the videos played by the network and has a voice call with the called party.
Implemented node : VMSC, GMSC, and VP+ AS
Served network : GSM and UMTS
Service benefits:
For carriers Improve subscribers experience, increase the call completion rate of the VP service, and improve the competitive edge of carriers.
For subscribers The enhanced multimedia fallback function enables calling parties to retain the use of VP service when VP service fallback occurs because of the network or terminal of the called party. The calling party can still use the VP call, whereas the called party receives the ordinary voice service.
Requirements for peripheral network entities: The VP+ AS manages the VP+ service and bridges a VP call and a voice call
