| Before the invention of the Coherent DSP(Modulation), we use DCM to prevent the latency between different wavelengths involves in same fiber. Because of every color has different speed, the usage of DCMs were obligatory. DCM or DCF types change according to distance between neighbour directions. After Coherent modulation, we do not use DCMs inside WDM network and longer transmission distance without regeneration is the biggest advantage of it. It is not related of ROADM or FOADM system, it is related to modulation techniques. |

| For non coherent & old WDM & OTN system, DCM is important & mandatory part. For coherent system, due to DSP & ADC systems , no need to install seperate DCM, as high osscilator system at receiving side, all dispersion is compensated before sending to client |
