In a general packet radio system (GPRS) network, the domain name
server (DNS) system is independent from the DNS system on the Internet.

As shown in Figure 1, the DNS system consists of the following levels:

  • MCCXXX.GPRS.


    This domain name level uses mobile country code (MCC) to differentiate the GPRS networks of different countries.


  • MNC


    This domain name level uses mobile network code (MNC) to differentiate the GPRS networks of one country.


  • General APN


    It defines the general access point name (APN) across the entire network, such as CMWAP.


  • Regional APN


    It differentiates the APNs of different regions, such as LN and NM.


    This APN level defines the APNs used in this region, such as Police
    and Government. If necessary, you can fractionalize this APN level.


  • LAC


    LAC is used to differentiate LAs. The domain names under LAC are:


    • RAC: differentiates RAs
    • RNC ID: differentiates RNCs

    The preceding two domain names are end nodes.
