It is impossible for carriers to migrate towards the pure CAMEL network all at once. Therefore, carriers choose to build the overlay CAMEL network on top of the legacy network as an interim solution. When the legacy network receives a call that requires CAMEL support, it routes the call to the SSP-capable MSC on the overlay CAMEL network for further handling.

 

        The OVERLAY SSP function allows the MSOFTX3000 to provide the SSP functionality while continuing to play the role of legacy network node. The MSOFTX3000 may choose to behave like the pure CAMEL network to invoke CAMEL-based services independently (by using CAMEL Subscription Information) or to invoke CAMEL-based services with assistance from the overlay CAMEL network.

When other MSCs even GMSCs of local network cannot upgrade to SSP, IN services can be provided fast in the case that MSOFTX3000 overlays to trigger IN services.

 

Carriers can rapidly roll out CAMEL-based services even when their V/G/TMSCs cannot be upgraded to be SSP-capable.

 

For subscribers:
