1. Disconnect the fiber from optical source. Then do your operation with fiber. Use an optical power meter to check that the optical source is switched off and verify that it is off by measuring the optical power.

2. Should use protecting caps to protect all the optical connectors.

3. Wear a pair of eye-protective glasses when you are handling lasers or fibers.

4. Be sure about your position that you are not exposed to laser radiation.

5. Dont look at the end of an exposed fiber or an open connector when you are not sure whether the optical source is switched off or not.

Laser transceivers or transmitters are used in optical transmission systems and associated test tools. The wavelength of the laser is between 780 nm and 1600 nm. The laser transmitted through optical fibers has very high power density and is invisible to human eyes. A beam of light causes damage to the retina. Laser of wavelengths used in telecommunications causes thermal damage to the retina. So, be careful in the time operating fiber.

Never disconnect patchcords from ODF or RAMAN amplifier if lasers on RAMAN is not switched off. If you disconnect, end of patchcord tail will be barned! Really barned - you can see later in microscope that tail will have, at least, black color:

We already have several such incident in real network.

Hi, from your posts, I guess your work is about U2000 operation and field maintenance. Am I right?

Would you talk about your work such as what tasks do you do daily?

"Lois Tan", i worked in "NOC of transport/transmission part", i just know from friends experience, documents of Huawei and our company internal training.
