Four predefined rules need to be configured on the UGW9811. Required configurations are as follows: -
Five condition groups Each condition group contains two conditions: RAT type and monthly traffic volume. -
One action group The rating group and QoS bandwidth are configured in predefined rules on the UGW9811. Only data usage reporting is configured on the UPCC. -
One quota One quota is configured because accumulated traffic volume is required for both P2P services and other services. -
Five rules Each rule contains the previously configured condition groups and action groups. -
Three policies Three policies are used to trigger IP-connectivity access network (IP-CAN) session establishment, usage status change, and RAT change (between GERAN and UTRAN) rules. Service Design for the UGW9811 According to analysis of configuration items in Table 3, predefined rules configured on the UGW9811 contain Layer 7 service flows, tariff increase, and QoS bandwidth reduction. Service flows involve P2P packets and other protocol packets. Service types controlled by bandwidth management (BWM) are type of service (ToS), protocol, protocol group, and category-property. The first three types are protocol-specific. Only the category-property type is used to associate BWM control with service type identification. Each protocol involves four-level control (see Table 2). Therefore, four category properties must be configured for each protocol to implement bandwidth control. A total of four PCC rules are configured on the UGW9811. Configuration Description Prerequisites - You have been familiar with the logical structures of BWM, service awareness (SA), and PCC on the UGW9811 and service
logical structure of the UPCC. - The license file for service control and bandwidth management has been loaded.
- Data
configuration for interworking between the UGW9811 and the UPCC and between the provisioning system and the UPCC is complete. This document describes only data configuration at the service layer. - The operations in Configuring a Common APN have been completed.
Constraints - New P2P protocols are continuously being developed and existing
protocols are modified and updated. Therefore, the UGW9811s signature database must be regularly upgraded to ensure that the UGW9811 can identify the latest protocols of P2P services. - Traffic volume thresholds should be appropriate. If
traffic volume thresholds are too small, messages are frequently sent by the UGW9811 to report that traffic volume thresholds have been reached. This affects the performance of the Gx interface. - The Gx interface of the UGW9811 can report information about the traffic of a maximum of five services simultaneously.
Data Planning -
Bandwidths are configured on the UGW9811 BWM module as follows: - The committed information rate (CIR) is planned as half of the peak information rate (PIR).

To obtain optimal control effects, set the committed burst size (CBS) and peak burst size (PBS) to the value of 1.5s multiplied by the CIR and the value of 1.5s multiplied by the PIR, respectively. The minimum control rate is 10 kbit/s. Some services may not be able to be accessed if the control rate is lower than 10 kbit/s. The following table lists the bandwidth control rates calculated for P2P services and other services according to the preceding principles. |
