Session Initiation Protocol - An application layer signaling protocol that defines initiation, modification and termination of interactive, multimedia communication sessions between users.

INVITE – Initiates a call by inviting user to participate in session.

? ACK - Confirms that the client has received a final response to an INVITE request.

? BYE - Indicates termination of the call.

? CANCEL - Cancels a pending request.

? REGISTER – Registers the user agent.

? OPTIONS – Used to query the capabilities of a server.

? INFO – Used to carry out-of-bound information, such as DTMF digits.

1xx - Informational Messages.

? 3xx - Redirection Responses.

? 4xx - Request Failure Responses.

SIP protocol: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) can be used for interworking between MSC servers (over the Nc interface), interworking between the MSC server and the IMS, and interworking between the MSC server and the NGN.

SIP-I protocol: For interoperation between SIP signaling and ISUP signaling, a mechanism of SIP messages incorporated with ISUP signaling is provided. To meet the requirements, the ISUP information must be encapsulated in SIP messages without any loss, or some key information of ISUP messages must be mapped to the corresponding header fields of SIP messages
