Recently a collegue explain me how is possible identify the BOM CODE using the serial number.

In all the HW equipment (frame, ONT, MODEM, etc) have a serial number or product ID as the following:

ONT: 2102310CWP6TBC002458

POWER FRAME: 21024004296MA6000305

 

The serial number contain 20 digits, to obtain the BOM CODE based on this number you should take the next 8 digits after the number 21 of the beginning for example, using the before examples:

ONT: 2102310CWP6TBC002458  --> the BOM CODE is 02310CWP

POWER FRAME: 21024004296MA6000305  --> the BOM CODE is 024004296

 

Now with the BOM CODE we can order a change of the part.

Thanks to Gustavo(g00746072)s information I will complete the previous information.

There is a different case when the Serial Number contains 16 digits and dont start with the number "21" or "021", I checked that in general this kind of serial numbers appear in the boards, in this case to obtain the BOM CODE from these serial number you should follow the next rule:

Take the first 6 digits of SN and add the number "03" in the beginning to complete the BOM CODE. For example:

    SN: 030GYN1095000196    --> BOM CODE 03030GYN

    Description: OptiX OSN 6800,TN12VA401,4-Channel Variable Optical Attenuator Board

    SN: 020JTND095000755    --> BOM CODE 03020JTN

    Description: OptiX OSN 6800,TN11PIU02,Power Interface Unit,1*2

By the way, we want supply a new function of scanning barcode.

Its mean, we supply the function of scanning in APP, you can use your mobile phone whicth install the app to scan the barcode of board, and then it will show you this board information including BOM number in your mobile phone.

We wonder know whether this function is useful for you?

I have seen some Serials Numbers beginning with others numbers and with less than 21 digits so, I would like to know if applies the same rule.
