One physical MGW can be partitioned into multiple VMGWs, that is, multiple logical MGWs. The UMG8900 supports the VMGW function. One physical UMG8900 can be partitioned into multiple VMGWs with independent logical functions. The VMGWs can meet the requirements of networking and some VMGWs can be leased to other virtual carriers.

The implementation of the VMGWs is defined in the H.248 protocol, also called MEGACO. One MGW can be controlled by one MGC. If one MGW is partitioned into multiple VMGWs, each VMGW can be controlled by one MGC. One UMG8900 can be partitioned into 32 VMGWs. Each VMGW can be configured with/three MSC servers to ensure that the backup MSC server can be used when an active MSC server is faulty. The UMG8900 has an independent operation and management policy rather than depends totally on the MSC server.

One UMG8900 can be partitioned into multiple VMGWs based on the requirements for capacity, functions, and performance. The VMGW feature of the UMG8900 provides the following functions:

Supporting logical partition of IP bearer resources.
Supporting logical partition of TDM bearer resources.

Supporting the resource pool mode for media resources, such as TC and EC resources.

The UMG8900 is capable of managing IP resources. Therefore, the IP resources can be shared among VMGWs. If one VMGW fails, other VMGWs can use its idle IP terminations.TDM resources are managed and allocated by the MSC server. The circuit identification codes (CICs) configured on the MSC server and the TDM timeslots on the UMG8900 have a one-to-one mapping relation. If one MSC server bound with a VMGW is faulty or if the logic of a VMGW is faulty, the matching TDM resources cannot be used by other VMGWs.

The UMG8900 earlier than V200R007C03 can be partitioned into a maximum of 16 VMGWs, but the UMG8900 V200R007C03 and later can be partitioned into a maximum of 32 VMGWs.

This feature is applicable to the VMSC, GMSC, and TMSC.

i.e. R8,R9 & later version VMGWS can be partitioned into a maximum of 32 VMGWs. Good.

this solution saves a lot of cost in buying multiple MGWs.
