The UMG8900 supports the IP multimedia media gateway (IM-MGW) function. This function makes the networking of the UMG8900 more flexible, and enables the UMG8900 to interwork with the media gateway control function (MGCF) for constructing the IMS network.

The mobile MGW can evolve to the IM-MGW smoothly to protect the investments of customers. The mobile gateway exchange can be used as the IM-MGW to simplify the networking structure and reduce the CAPEX.

The IMS is a service domain that overlays the PS domain in theWCDMA network, which enables comprehensive telecommunication services of MSs in the PS domain. TheWCDMA RAN and the PS domain provide an access mode for terminals in the IMS domain. In the IMS domain, call services are processed by the call session control function (CSCF).When the IMS domain interworks with the CS domain, the CSCF forwards calls to the MGCF and IM-MGWat the boarder of the IMS domain. The CSCF exchanges signaling messages with other networks through the MGCF, and implements bearer interworking with other networks through the IM-MGW.

This feature is applicable to the GMSC.

The mobile gateway exchange can be used as the IM-MGW to simplify the networking structure and reduce the CAPEX.
