The Iur interface, as stipulated in the 3GPP protocol, is the service interface between two RNCs. The UMG8900 provides the function of ATM based transfer of Iur interface signaling. That is, the RNCs connected with the UMG8900 do not need to be connected through physical interfaces; instead, their signaling and bearer traffic are transferred through theUMG8900.
