MSC
|
The MSC is the softswitch center in a WCDMA network. It incorporates the VLR database. Its functions include:
The MSC is used to provide basic services, mobility management, and multimedia services for subscribers. |
| Mobility Mangement: The temporary data of mobile subscriber will be recorded in the MSC/VLR. Meanwhile, the VLR number where the subscriber is located currently will be recorded in HLR. When the subscriber powers on/off, or the subscriber roams from one location area to another location area, perform location update. To ensure the accuracy of location information in the network, MS should originate periodic location update. |
|
In the packet network the SGSN is similar to the MSC, almost same functionality from a packet point of view. |
