In actual implementation, the MAP protocol is divided into two layers: MAP service-provider and MAP service-user.

 

lThe MAP service-provider provides the MAP service-users with a specified set of service primitives. The MAP service-users view the MAP service-provider as a "black box" or abstract machine.

 

lThe MAP service-users interact with the MAP service-provider by issuing or receiving
MAP service-primitives at the service interface.
