[My Success Story] Optical Fiber‘s traffic protection through PDH MW
|
In spur optical fiber routes it was a great challenge for a planner to plan protection within existing resources. For long distance transmission network legacy PDH MW chains were used and after increasing traffic demand optical fiber planned & implemented. Most of the traffic shifted to optical route to get more flexibility and reliability. But at the time of fiber cut full area coverage is blocked. Management was very concern about call loss. Without purchasing any new equipment we have taken a trial using Huawei OSN to provide SNCP protection solution. It was successful and legacy PDH MW chains were used to pass 1st E1 of each BTS to provide best coverage at the time of optical fiber cut. We have made E1 connectivity (physical jumper) between PDH MW drop port at DDF and ADM E1 drop port at DDF. Also made physical looping with patch cord between two STM-1 optical port at same ADM to bypass K1 and K2 byte for STM-1 mapping. In both near end and far end Huawei ADM used to configure working path through optical route and protection path through PDH MW chain. Theoretical knowledge of OSN from technical document helped a lot to gether confidence about this approach. Total 28 optical spur route and more than 500 BTS protected through a project.
