Definition

The MAP-Diameter Translation service enables the signaling service processing system (SPS) to function as an InterWorking Function (IWF) to implement conversion between the MAP protocol and Diameter protocol in the following two scenarios:

• A 3G subscriber roams to a 4G network: The SPS implements conversion between Diameter messages sent over the S6a interface and MAP messages sent over the Gr interface.
• A 4G subscriber performs Check IMEI at a 2G/3G equipment identity register (EIR): The SPS implements conversion between Diameter messages sent over the S13 interface and MAP messages sent over the Gf interface.

System Capacity

• If only authentication messages need to be forwarded in the location update procedure after the MAP-Diameter Translation feature is enabled, the performance of DAU processes on the SDAU board decreases 10%.

• If all messages are S6a-interface messages after the MAP-Diameter Translation feature is enabled, the performance of DAU processes on the SDAU board decreases 40% and the performance of SSU processes decreases 85%.
