This section describes the requirements for the equipment room location. Communications devices must be located in a proper environment. Communications equipment rooms cannot be exposed to high temperature, dust, hazardous gas, explosive substances, or unstable power supply. Avoid locating communications equipment rooms at places where there is strenuous vibration or strong noise. Ensure that communications equipment rooms are far away from transformer substations. Therefore, during the engineering design, you must follow the communications network planning and technical requirements of the communications devices. In addition, you need to consider the factors such as the hydrological condition, geological condition, earthquake, electrical power supply, and traffic. In this manner, you can select a site that fulfills the environmental requirements of communications devices. The construction, structure, heating, ventilation, power supply, lighting, and fire protection of communications equipment rooms, which are usually designed by professional construction designers, must fulfill the environmental requirements of communications devices. In addition, the design of equipment rooms must follow the regulations related to industrial enterprises, environment protection, fire protection, and civil air defense. Moreover, the design of equipment rooms must follow national standards and regulations. The special technological design of equipment rooms must comply with the rules and requirements related to house construction design. The requirements for the equipment room location are as follows: - Equipment rooms must be far away from pollution sources. Equipment rooms must be at least 5 km (3.11 mi.) away from heavy pollution sources, such as smelteries and coal mines. Equipment rooms must be at least 3.7 km (2.30 mi.) away from medium pollution sources, such as chemical, rubber, and galvanization plants. Equipment rooms must be at least 2 km (1.24 mi.) away from light pollution sources, such as food and leather processing plants. If this requirement cannot be met, equipment rooms must be in the perennial upwind direction of pollution sources. In addition, high-grade equipment rooms or anti-pollution devices must be adopted.
- The air vents of equipment rooms must be located away from the exhausts of waste pipes, large cesspools, and sewage treatment tanks. Equipment rooms must be in the positive pressure state to prevent corrosive gases from entering the rooms and damaging the components.
- Equipment rooms must be away from industrial and heating boilers.
- It is recommended that equipment rooms should be located on the second floor or higher. If this requirement cannot be met, the ground for device installation must be at least 600 mm (23.62 in.) higher than the maximum local flood stage.
- Equipment room must be located away from livestock farms. If this requirement cannot be met, equipment rooms must be in the perennial upwind direction of livestock farms.
- Equipment rooms must be located at least 3.7 km (2.30 mi.) away from seaside and salt lakes. If this requirement cannot be met, equipment rooms must be airtight and installed with air conditioners for the cooling purpose. In addition, alkalized soil cannot be used as the construction material of the equipment room. Otherwise, you must select the devices that adapt to severe environments.
- The houses which were livestock rooms or fertilizer warehouses cannot be used as equipment rooms.
- Equipment rooms must be solid enough to resist strong wind and storm.
- Equipment rooms must be located away from dusty areas, such as dusty roads and sand fields. If this requirement cannot be met, the windows and doors of the equipment rooms must not face the pollution sources.
