Setting Bandwidth in PWE3 Services under same tunnel of MPLS Tunnel

In MPLS Tunnel configuration,

1. When we have created a Tunnel using a certain BW such 1Gbps, can i configure different PWE3 Services (PWE3_1=300 Mbps, PWE3_2=200 Mbps, PWE3_3=250 Mbps). I need to make sure that, I can configure different PWE3 services at different BW under a same tunnel. Is there BW setting Parameters for PWE3 services under a same tunnel of certain BW.

Also, if PWE3 Service capacity exceeds the Tunnel BW, then will it notify us before configuring the service in OSN 3500/7500.

Appreciate if you can explain.

2. Since We have PEX2 (2X10 G) capacity packet line capacity between Sink and Source(A-B-C) node of a Tunnel. If there is no BW set in Tunnel, will it grab all the BW of this line.  Can i configure more tunnels under this A-B-C path. If yes, then, there might be a chance to conflict in their BW. Because couple of tunnels created in same path with no BW restricted.

A scenario could be like this,  Tunnel ID_1 = 10G BW , Tunnel ID_2=8G BW already configured.  Now if we set the Tunnel ID_3= No limit.  Then under this circumstances, if PWE3 services configured more than BW of 2G on Tunnel ID_3, then what will happen. Since whole the line capacity is 20 G, there must be BW conflicts though no limit is set on Tunnel ID_3.

Appreciate if you can explain the situation.

3.  Whats difference of CIR & PIR ?

I have found CIR in document as :

The Committed Information Rate (Kbit/s) parameter specifies the CIR of the queue. The packets whose rates are less than the CIR can be forwarded. When the rate of the packets is not more than the CIR, all messages can be forwarded. CIR should be less than PIR.

The PIR(Kbit/s) parameter specifies the maximum rate of services allowed, also called the peak information rate (PIR).

Since Packet Greater than CIR is discarded, then whats the functions of PIR ?

Appreciate if you can explain.

Hi Raihan,

[Scenario 1] Tunnel BW=1Gbps, PWE3_1=300 Mbps, PWE3_2=200 Mbps, PWE3_3=250 Mbps

Its totally ok.

[Scenario 2] Port BW=20G, Tunnel ID_1 = 10G, Tunnel ID_2=8G, Tunnel ID_3= no limit, but carry a PW more than 2G.

In my opinion, in normal condition, most services is not full loaded. So the services is normal.

But If all the services in the three Tunnels is Full. Then there may be a packet drop.

So, there is not strict limit between Port, Tunnel and PW, there is a balance between BW utilization ratio and performance.

[CIR and PIR]

- packet rate < CIR: marked green and forward

- CIR < packet rate < PIR: marked yellow. Yellow packets can be set to "discard", "pass", that depends.

- packet rate > PIR: marked red and directly discarded

If you have any further questions please let me know.

BR.

Dear Pengwei,

Thanks for your prompt response. I am just reconfirming with you that,  after setting Tunnel BW first, can i have option to set Specific BW of PWE3 service while configuring the PWE3 service?

Dear Raihan,

Of course you can set Tunnel BW first and then set each PW BW.

Dear Pengwei, thanks a lot for clearing my confusion.
