one thing to mention:

Hedex should contain some Basic theory of GSM/UMTS. if we search Channel concepts of GSM/UMTS we only find some product based working principle.

 To develop a good concept of product we need generic technology concept so that we can deal with any vendor product.

GSM channel concept:

Each timeslot on a TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) frame is called a physical channel. Therefore, there are 8 physical channels per carrier frequency in GSM. Physical channels can be used to transmit speech, data or signaling information. A physical channel may carry different messages, depending on the information that is to be sent. These messages are called logical channels. Information is transmitted via physical channels as the form of bursts.

 

UMTS channel concept:

There are three types of channels in the WCDMA technologies:
1. Physical Channel
2. Transport Channel- Ingerface between MAC & Layer 1
3. Logical channel- Interface between MAC & RLC
The logical and transport channels define WHAT data are transported, while the physical channels define HOW and with what physical characteristic the data are transport.
Transport channels: Transport channels are interface between MAC & Layer 1. It can be further subdivided into Common Transport Channels; and dedicated transport channels.

 

If you try to search in "UMTS Feature Documentation" (http://support.huawei.com/hdx/hdx.do?docid=DOC1000054730&lang=en) and "GSM Feature Documentation" (http://support.huawei.com/hdx/hdx.do?docid=DOC1000055054&lang=en) hedexes, the following documents related to channel management theory can be easily found.

• Radio Bearers Feature Parameter Description (in UMTS Feature Documentation hedex)
• Channel Management Description (in GSM Feature Documentation hedex)
