On a broadcast network, non-broadcast multi-access (NBMA) network, or Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP) network, two interfaces must reside on the same network segment and have the same subnet mask digits to establish a neighbor relationship. Such a restriction does not apply to a peer-to-peer (P2P) network.
