The UMG8900 provides the Interconnect Border Gateway Function (I-BGF). With this function, the UMG8900, when working with the MSOFTX3000 that provides the Interconnect Border Control Function (I-BCF), enables transmission of Internet Protocol (IP) based audio, video, and data, facilitating the evolution from the circuit-switched (CS) domain to the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS).

Support limitations:

• his feature is not applicable to IP version 6 (IPv6).
• This feature does not support RTP-RTP video codec conversion, but supports video transmission. (RTP refers to the Real-time Transport Protocol.)
• This feature can be configured only on the HRD board.

Implementation:

When the MSC server provides I-BCF and the UMG8900 provides I-BGF, two IMS networks can interwork with each other, as shown in below;

The UMG8900 implements I-BGF in cooperation with I-BCF to support the following functions:

• DiffServ: Different QoS strategies are used for differentiated services 
• Flow management
• Network address translation (NAT)
• Transmission of packet data and unsupported codec without processing
• IP security
