The Nb interface is an interfacebetween MGWs in the UMTS R4 network, which is defined in the3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) protocol. In2G networks, the Nb interface represents the CN interface.

The UMG8900 supportsboth IP-based and TDM-based Nb interfaces. It realizes the connectivity of media streams overdifferent interfaces and converts the codec formats in differentbearer modes. The UMG8900 supports the IPbearer mode in2G and3G CNs as requiredby the actual transmission network, and provides interfaces such as the FE, GE, and POS interfaces. When the UMG8900 is applied in a2G tandem exchange, it supports the G .711, G .729,
and  AMR codecs over IP . l  When the UMG8900 is applied in a2G local exchange, it supports the G .711, GSM EFR,
GSM HR, and  AMR codecsover IPWhen the UMG8900 is applied in a3G local exchange or gateway exchange, it supports the G .711,  AMR, and  AMR2 codecs over IP .
