With the embedded RANAP SG function, the UMG8900 supports the RANAP signaling transfer function of the UMTS access network. The signaling is transparently transmitted to the mobile switching center (MSC) server through the UMG8900 to reduce the networking complexity . The embedded SGof the UMG8900 supports the proxy and transfer modes concurrently , and is applicable to both the UMTS R99 network and UMTS R4 network. When the RANAP SG function is enabled, the links must be configured to work in load-sharing mode. The UMG8900 also supports the SG multi-signaling point function, through which the SG function can be configured for each virtual media gateway (VMGW).

This makes the configuration more flexible.
