The IP jitterbuffer feature is mainly applied in V oIP services provided by the MGW. When voice packets are transmitted through more than one MGWs and the Nb interface is basedon IP , jitter arises in the receivedvoice packets.

To reduce the ef fect caused by jitterson the IPnetwork, the receiving MGW can adjust the strategy for playingvoice packages in the jitterbuf fer according to the receivedvoice packages in thebuffer . The MGWdoes not play the first receivedvoice package immediately , but after a while. In this way , thebigger capacity the jitterbuf fer has, the more packages the MGW receivesbefore playing, which means that fewervoice packages are lost.The longer the jitterbuffer time is, the higher the end-to-end delay . T o keep pace with abrupt network changes, Huawei UMG8900 can adjust the jitterbuf fer valuebased on the jitter on the network.
